The Speedy Supplier Awards for 2016 were announced at the Speedy Expo at Liverpool Exhibition Centre.
Health and Safety Award
The health and safety of Speedy's employees and customers is something that we take seriously. Speedy actively seeks products and initiatives that offer real improvements in this area.
This award was quite simply, for a product, process or service that offers significant health and safety benefits and/or addresses an existing problem.
Winner - Reactec - HAVWEAR
The Reactec product is a wrist worn device to advise workers of tool vibration risk. It informs the wearer of their exposure by calculating and displaying in real-time their HSE HAV risk assessment exposure points. Sound and vibration alerts inform the wearer if their personalised exposure thresholds have been exceeded.
Finalist - Marwood Group Limited - Anti Slip Roadplate
Marwood Group's objective in developing this product was to not only implement a safer method of lifting and positioning the road plate, but to also increase the life span of the Anti-Slip material whilst maintaining a good level of grip on the plate surface.
Finalist - Milkwaukee - Cordless Magnetic Drill Press
A product which addresses the safety issue of using conventional mag drills and how the magnet is reliant on electrical power to operate a strap or chain that should always be used.

The Environmental Award was for the company who has made a significant contribution to reducing environmental impact either through product development or by the introduction of new business, infrastructure or manufacturing processes.
Winner - Atlas Copco - HiLight B5+ Lighting Tower
The design objectives were to reduce fuel consumption and transport costs and minimise the risk of leakages. By combining improved optics and high efficiency LED lights, an area of 5,000 square metres can be lit using just 35% of the power needed by conventional metal halide lamps. Reduced fuel demands and compact design also reduce transportation costs. An integral spillage free frame minimises the risk of possible leakages and environmental pollution.
Finalist - Lyreco - PV System
Lyreco achieved significant energy savings at their National Distribution Centre in Shropshire through the installation of the 4th largest rooftop PV system in the UK. EvoEnergy was awarded the contract for its innovative technical solution to Lyreco's challenge of offsetting the environmental impact of its 55,000 sqm distribution centre and the 275 delivery vehicles on-site.
Specialist Award
This was awarded for a product or service that has had impact in our specialist sectors of; Rail, Survey, Lifting and Industrial.
Winner - Hi-Force Hydraulic Tools for their PLC controlled lifting system
The FCBC have 135 road sections to concrete and position, each weighing 16 tonnes, and they needed a safe, efficient and reliable jacking system to help do this. Extensive consultations involving FCBC, Speedy and Hi-Force resulted in a practical solution and valuable order. The system proved a complete success and provided a safe, controlled and faster operation than the previous operation method.
Finalist - Nationwide Platforms
Nationwide Platforms were tasked with delivering substantial cost reductions to Speedy and introduced multiple measures including ‘flexi stock’ options and a fleet management system to optimise utilisation and control access.
Innovation Award
The Innovation Award was for the company who could demonstrate improvements in areas such as Health & Safety, regulatory compliance, ease of use or cost saving - through the application of new technology, design or service processes.
The companies entered for the award had to show real end user benefits and tangible advantages over similar products or services.
Winner - Morris Site Machinery - Makinex Easy Lift 140
Their Makinex Easy Lift 140, a first to market, universal materials handling solution that enables one person to safely lift and load directly into vehicles (trucks, vans and even estate cars) or to place equipment and small loads on bench tops. At the flick of a simple thumb switch the user can control and raise the lifting arm, with loads attached of up to 140kg without breaking a sweat, or putting pressure or strain on the lower back. A great product for the hire market and ideal for semi-pro builders and maintenance teams.
Finalist - MSA Britain Limited - ALTAIR 4XR gas detector
A robust unit with Bluetooth connectivity – allowing real-time awareness when paired with the ALTAIR Connect app available from any supported Android device. This real-time awareness includes live gas readings and alarm notifications that can be sent via text message from the Android device wirelessly to a user-defined list of recipients. This takes once localized notifications and sends them immediately to those that need to see them most.
Special Contribution Awards
The awards were given to the suppliers who have continuously shown support for Speedy’s business initiatives and who have provided on-going commitment to developing the business relationship.
Capital Equipment Supplier Award
Winner - Altrad Belle
A supplier for over 35 years, consistently going the extra mile in both supporting and collaborating with Speedy to help them deliver great products for their customers.
Indirect Award
Indirect Special Contribution Award, this is for suppliers who provide our “Indirect” products or services such as utilities, telecoms, training, property and security.
Winner - BMW
BMW are awarded the Indirect Special Contribution Award for their work with Speedy in creating the i3 van, which brings fantastic environmental and financial benefits including a reduction in congestion charge fees due to the vehicles low CO2 emissions.
Spares and Parts Award
Winner - Bosch
Awarded the Sales and Parts Special Contribution Award for the exemplary role they have played in the roll out of the new Power Tool Accessory range this year. They have supported the roll out with promotions and incentive schemes, promoting the sales of accessories successfully throughout the Speedy business.
Partnered Services Award
Winner - Nationwide Platforms
Nationwide Platforms won this award for their continual, exceptional product range and excellent levels of service.
Stand of the Show Award
This award was for the best stand at the show and was chosen by a mystery shopper. The criteria was for best display and for the stand that the panel thought made best use of the opportunity to engage with visitors and communicate their proposition.

Special Relationship Award
